Invoice Fly packs estimates, card payments and expense tracking into one app, but there's no free plan: after the trial you pay $8.99 a week or $98.99 a year. If you only send a handful of invoices, or you don't need card payments, there are cheaper ways to bill clients. Here are six alternatives, with the limits each one actually has. (For the head-to-head, see InvoiceNexora vs Invoice Fly.)
The Shortlist
- 01InvoiceNexora: free, unlimited invoices, offline, 10 invoice languages.
- 02Zoho Invoice: free up to 500 invoices a year, estimates included.
- 03Wave: free unlimited invoicing; reminders and branding need Pro.
- 04Invoice Ninja: free for up to 5 clients.
- 05Invoice2go: paid plans with yearly invoice caps below Premium.
- 06Joist: contractor suite; no free plan.
1. InvoiceNexora: Best Free Alternative for Invoices Only
InvoiceNexora is a mobile invoice app built around one job: making professional PDF invoices quickly. The Free plan includes unlimited invoices and clients, 7 templates, a saved catalog of services and materials, and status tracking from draft to paid. It works with no internet after you sign in once, which matters on job sites, and it can issue each invoice in one of 10 languages and any currency.
- Price: Free. Optional Pro at $9.99/month or $89.99/year for cloud backup, sync, all 16 templates and no ads.
- Best for: Freelancers, consultants and tradespeople who get paid by bank transfer, Wise or PayPal.
- Missing: Estimates, card payments and expense tracking. Android only for now; iOS is coming.
2. Zoho Invoice: Best Free Web-Based Option
- Price: Free, with up to 500 invoices a year, two users and 'Powered by Zoho Invoice' branding on invoices.
- Best for: Small teams who want estimates, a client portal and a desktop dashboard.
- Missing: The setup is heavier, and it's built around the wider Zoho suite. See InvoiceNexora vs Zoho Invoice.
3. Wave: Best for Free Invoicing Plus Bookkeeping
- Price: The Starter plan is free with unlimited invoices and estimates. Pro costs $19/month and adds automatic payment reminders, your branding without Wave's, and bank imports.
- Card fees: 2.9% + $0.60 per card payment on Starter.
- Best for: US and Canadian businesses that also want simple bookkeeping. More in Wave alternatives.
4. Invoice Ninja: Best for a Few Clients and Lots of Control
- Price: Free for up to 5 clients with unlimited invoices. Ninja Pro costs $14/month or $140/year.
- Best for: Technical users who like detailed settings, and businesses with a small, steady client list.
- Missing: The free plan stops at 5 clients, and the interface has a learning curve.
5. Invoice2go: Closest Paid Match for Field Work
- Price: Three paid plans after a 30-day trial that needs a card. Starter allows 30 invoices a year, Professional 100, and Premium is unlimited.
- Card fees: 2.9–3.5% depending on plan; ACH bank transfers are free.
- Best for: Trades with a team who want estimates, time tracking and card payments. See InvoiceNexora vs Invoice2go.
6. Joist: Best for Contractors Who Quote Every Job
- Price: No free plan; a 14-day trial, then paid plans. Basics is limited to 5 documents a month; unlimited starts with Pro at $17/month.
- Best for: Contractors who need estimates, homeowner financing and job management.
- Missing: A free option for occasional invoicing. See InvoiceNexora vs Joist.
